2016 PICCOLO SPOLETO | SAND SCULPTING COMPETITION
The Art of Sand Sculpting
Participants in this annual Piccolo Spoleto event…young and young at heart, individuals, couples, friends and family groups use plastic spoons, plastic forks with only one tine, food coloring, shovels, rakes and hoes along with their own hands to sculpt creative works of art using raw sand.
Early in the day awards were presented for the Children’s Category.
Contestants were soooo eager waiting for their names to be called.
Against the backdrop of the beachfront on the Isle of Palms contestants sculpted and competed in 6 different prize categories. Competitors integrated superhero logos with the Spoleto logo, decorated mermaids with seaweed, sculpted famous movie characters, creatures of nature, and celebrated the musical icon Prince, even a beach sand baseball diamond and a city complete with businesses and a roadway for match box cars were designed.
It was a wonderful day at the beach!
