Sunset Serenade at the US Custom House
Is beyond emotionally moving. Such passion in the musical tributes to so many. This year was no different.
As the US flag at the Custom House hung at half-staff, The music of the Charleston Symphony Orchestra , under the direction of Yuriy Bekker , embraced our country’s sorrow of the recent senseless deaths of our school children, spirited arrangements honored those who are actively in service to our country, as well as honoring those who gave their lives in service. Excerpts from ‘Fiddler on the Roof’ had folks humming along while doing a little ‘lawn chair dancing’.
Baritone soloist, Jason McKinney brought tears to audience members with an arrangement of Antonín Dvořák, arr. N. C. Page ‘Goin’ Home’, then engaged the audience in a responsive singing of George and Ira Gershwin, arr. Robert Russell Bennett
Porgy and Bess: “It Ain’t Necessarily So”. The concert concluded with John Philip Sousa
Stars and Stripes, bringing folks to their feet and waving their arms. It was a wonderful and emotional evening at with the Charleston community and the Charleston Symphony
