BATTERY vs New York Red Bulls | April 18
Blackbaud Stadium was alive with creativity! I arrived at the stadium a little earlier than usual so I took the opportunity to walk around and gather a few photos of the stadium being readied for the match. Wow! Was I every amazed! As I wandered through the crowd, YES, CROWD!!!! I noticed a few wee folks were most interested in a robot display. As I observed these magnificent works of creativity and technology I realized I was standing in the middle of a firing range… Yep, a group of students from Palmetto Scholars Academy had built a Frisbee launcher!!!! And another group had designed a few robots that had captivated the attention of several young folks. I love to experience young folks using their creative energies in positive ways. Hannah Riener, the choral director at Palmetto Scholars Academy, directed the chorus who sang the National Anthem.
Of course folks have to partake in their favorite libations and stadium foods so I stopped by the beer garden for a few festive shots. Next, I need to decide what to eat… decisions, decisions… it’s a toss-up between the Jamaican pulled pork with a side of their spicy slaw or the fish and chips…well maybe the spicy nuts, kettle corn, perhaps a snow cone or a King of Pops sickle???? So may good choices…so little time… so many creative food vendors. Then there were the party tents… they were packed!!!! Lots of folks coming out to celebrate a good time together.
Next, I visited the fun zone… it had rained earlier in the day so the staff was making sure the jump castles were dry and clean for the kids.
What do I see next but the Chick-Filet Cow & Cannon Ball… Man, the wee ones love these two. They weren’t the only ones ‘in costume’. So may folks dawning their festive match wear…socks, hats, masks, scarves… all combinations of ‘Black & Yellow’… and all kinds of creative gimmicks to rally the players and fans. The ‘March to the Stadium’ is always festive… and I hear the supporter’s clubs have written a rally song… check out the video at the end of the photo gallery.
The playground was packed with kids of all ages… Yep, the Hip Hoppers were at the ‘Baud. They will be performing at halftime… even more creativity … I could go on and on forever… best thing is for you just to experience A NIGHT AT THE ‘BAUD.
