BATTERY vs RANGERS FC | 2nd Half | 7-6-16
So looking forward to photographing this match!!!!! Then the storm came…with lightning…then major rain…temperatures had climbed to 97 during the day…
1.5 hour match delay…I head to the Three Lions Pub for a little air conditioning hoping my camera will not fog up…
OK…we begin the festivities…I shoot in the pouring rain so hoping my camera will be ok. Others around me have lenses with the diameter of a dinner plate…a very large dinner plate…I am a ‘little’ bummed. I shoot the for awhile then move to a tented area…I can’t really find a great place to shoot from so my frustration escalates. My dear husband brings me an umbrella then suddenly the rain tapers & stops.
Everything soaked to the bone I go back out on the field, continue shooting hoping I can get something, just a little something through the fog on my lens…
For the second half ‘my eye of the match’ is a toss up btwn #30, Andrew Carleton, 16 years old of Atlanta’s United Academy and Charleston Battery forward Chris Tsonis. ….just look at all the numerous touches Andrew & Chris had on the ball…held it and passed it off… shooting in conflict…shielding against Oguchi Onyewu, “Gooch”…only 1 of 3 Americans who has played in the Italian league & now trying out for Rangers FC…geeze…
You are viewing more photos which look similar but you are actually looking at a sequence of plays… so impressed with the academy player’s ability to hold onto the ball…and in the presence of Oguchi Onyewu.
Shooting after a mad rain storm…lens fogging up…everything beyond wet…but hey, this has got to have been one of the best weeks of soccer for Charleston Battery Fans, coaches and players… So good to see the four Atlanta Academy players on the field with the Rangers FC…what a story they will have to tell their children!

on July 10, 2016After reading your monologue I was expecting something mundane. Surprise me you did. You gave me a full blown account of what appears to have been a great game. The weather may have stalled the game but not the fans or the players enthusiasm. You rocked the night with your work. So many great shots of players and fans. The one thing I can honestly say is you made me wish I had been there to enjoy this event. Thanks for sharing your love of the game and stickin it out in inclimate weather. A night to remember.
