BATTERY vs WILMINGTON | 04-09-16
The Charleston Battery is finding their rhythm early the season…and quickly at that! Recently arrived player, Romario Williams, on loan from Montreal scored so fast I had not even settled on with my camera. He scored in the 2nd minute of the match…he head butted that ball right past the Wilmington defenders as their goal keeper stood there and watched… follow through I say…pays off!!!
Defender Taylor Mueller scored the Battery’s second goal from a throw in placed by fullback O’Brian “Obi” Woodbine. Mueller was named the USL Player of the week. Congratulations to Taylor! Wilmington scored on a beautiful header. Final 2-1.
The night began with tailgating with The Regiment, The Official Supporter’s Group of the Charleston Battery, and supporters of the Hammerheads. It is always a pleasure having Wilmington in the house as all are a great bunch of positive supporters. Menu: Frogmore Stew, Pulled Pork, Sausages, Rice, Éclairs, and more.
The overall stadium crowd appeared average in number but very vocal. I understand there were several proms this night plus the tennis classic was going on around the corner at the Volvo Stadium.
E10 was full of energy and support for the Battery. Even Coach Anhaeuser’s son and friends joined in the fun waving flags and cheering on the team. After the match Battery players are always appreciative of the fan support; it was touching to see them visiting E10 to celebrate their WIN, offer autographs & posing for photographs with young soccer enthusiasts.
Well done Charleston Battery!
