COLONIAL LAKE Renovation 2015
10.33 acres, located on Broad Street near Lockwood Blvd. in historic downtown Charleston is currently the site of a joint renovation project of Colonial Lake supported by the Charleston Parks Conservancy and the City of Charleston. Work began Jan. 19, 2015. The Park is approximately 125 years old.
My plan is to update the photos as the project progresses. To learn more about this project visit http://www.charlestonparksconservancy.org/programs/view_park/park_renovation_projects/colonial_lake_renovation and their FB oage at https://www.facebook.com/CharlestonParksConservancy?fref=ts
“The Charleston Parks Conservancy raised $1 million for the effort with the city adding $4 million. Harry Lesesne, with the Charleston Parks Conservancy, says this is the biggest single amount of private funding that's ever gone to a park project in the city of Charleston.
The key components with the project include:
• A new water supply system that will be more consistent with the water quality in the Ashley River • New gardens • More benches
Crews will be narrowing Rutledge and Ashley avenues to add new space to park. Lesesne says the hope is to have the park complete before January 2016. Until then, people will have to use other nearby parks like Cannon Park and Moultrie Playground.” - http://www.live5news.com/story/27882226/year-long-colonial-lake-improvement-project-begins-monday (By Hannah Moseley)
