# 4 South Battery; 'The White House'
The Battery, stretches along the lower shores of the historic Charleston, SC peninsula; is bordered by two rivers, The Ashley and The Cooper. In the American Revolution, the War of 1812, and the American Civil War times it acted as a defensive seawall. Across from the gardens are many famous stately antebellum homes. Among them are the Charles Drayton, Roper, and the William Ravenel Homes and # 4 South Battery, what I like to call ‘The White House’.
