UPPER KING STREET & EAST BAY | Street Photography Walking Tour
Street Photography | Upper King Street centered around Ann Street |
We decided to take to downtown Charleston and do a little ‘street photography’ focused on architecture. Enjoy!
The upper area along King Street is changing with every breath we breathe…one story businesses give way to high rise complexes…not sure how we feel about it but in any event, we decided it most definitely needs to be documented. We started our walk around the Post and Courier Newspaper building. We meandered around this part of the neighborhood then drove down Columbus Street heading to the old site of Johnson and Wales University (where our oldest son attended) which has been totally renovated and turned into the ‘Cigar Factory’ which was the original use for this magnificent structure. We toured about half of the site, including the café and ‘Cedar Room’ which one staff member referred to as the ‘movie room’ because of its superlative décor and view of the Ravenel Bridge.
We then headed over to a park near the Gaillard Auditorium photographing Theodora Park side of the building and St. John’s Reformed Church on the side…
We then drove back to King Street where we resumed our walking tour centered around Ann Street…photographing the east side of the street due to the sun being so cooperative but we did occasionally snap a few photos on the west side of King Street…we made our way to the Rare Bit restaurant for a refreshment then finished our walking tour and headed back across the Ravenel Bridge to Mount Pleasant.
